I've been getting wierd visual disturbances for the last couple of days - what could be causing it?

It's like persistence of vision after looking at a bright light, like a halo effect to my left. It's mostly affecting my left eye, particularly looking at a computer screen, and it's really irritating. Googling my symptom gets me 'migraine', but I've never had a migraine in my life!
