Switched B/C brands mid pack?! Does it decrease protection?

I went to the Doctors because I was getting a lot of breakthrough bleeding mid-cycle on the last pill I was on (Junel) . They switched me Lessina and my provider told me to start taking it that very day, even though I was in mid-cycle. Now, I have some spotting, which I guess is normal but my concern is.... was I protected during the switch? I had sex about two days before switching and then again a little over a week after. I looked online and they give different directions on switching.... so why would my provider tell me it was ok to switch mid-cycle? Now, I'm worried I wasnt protected.....
