How do I monitor my home from work?

I need to be able to access a home webcam from my iPad at work so I can monitor our puppy. I know it sounds silly but I am very paranoid about something happening to him. Right now our setup is a little ghetto and doesn't always work. Currently, my laptop (first MacBook) is in the bathroom where we keep the puppy. I have two Skype accounts, I go to work and get my fianc� to call my other Skype account on my iPad. Most of the time the connection lasts for about 3 hours, but I can't call back because no one is there to answer. If I could train the puppy to grow thumbs and answer the call that'd be great, but not very realistic. I need a webcam that I can turn on remotely by myself and if possible move it around to see the whole bathroom. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!
