Homemade remedies for before flat ironing.?

I want to know if anyone knows about a any homemade products that i can put on my hair before i straight it to protect it. I've tried several of brand name products and they never work, and leave my hair looking greasy and dirty, even though i just washed it. So i've heard natural treatments are much better, does anyone knows of any?
